Ben Folds Adds Orchestra to Tunes in Pittsburgh!


He went solo in 2000, but Ben Folds had lot more than his keys for company on Saturday night as he played to a sold-out Heinz Hall audience in Pittsburgh, PA, backed by the city’s own Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. The resulting revamped tunes ranged from too sparse to too cluttered, with a few striking a perfect balance. That dichotomy struck a chord before a note was played. As the orchestra was tuning, sitting quietly in formal wear onstage, an audience member in the balcony let loose a giant “Woohoo!” The child of rock shows and symphony performances was about to be born.
