Rage Against The Machine offers free London Concert!

American rap-rockers Rage Against the Machine have announced a free concert in London this spring to celebrate their astonishing Christmas chart topper in the U.K., Killing in the Name.

The Morters began a Facebook campaign in order to prevent another song from the talent show X Factor from becoming a Christmas No. 1, as had been the case for the past four years.

The couple decided on the unlikely anti-establishment anthem, resulting in 500,000 downloads by the end of Christmas week compared to 450,000 for The Climb, a song by 2009 X Factor winner Joe McElderry.

“A historic grassroots rebellion made our song Killing in the Name the number one [British] Christmas single of 2009,” wrote guitarist Tom Morello in a statement released Friday.

“The people of the U.K. toppled the X Factor giant, raised a great deal of money for homeless charities, and shocked the world. As a thank you to our U.K. fans and freedom fighters we promised to play a free show. Well … here we come … The celebration/party/revolution is ON!!”

Promising a huge gig with lots of other artists, the band says the event at Finsbury Park on June 6th will be free and tickets will be distributed through a lottery system. The park could accommodate about 40,000.
